General Information
Marriage licenses are issued by Counties and you can apply for your License at any county clerk's office.
You can get married in any County in Washington State, regardless of where you obtained your Marriage License. The marriage license needs to be returned to the county clerk it was obtained from. (Your Officiant does that for you)
To obtain a marriage license you need:
- Identification: a picture ID such as a driver's license, state ID card, or valid passport; both parties will also have to provide their Social Security numbers, but do not need to provide their Social Security Cards.
- If you are unable to appear in person together, you can submit a notarized application by mail. (Your Officiant can help you with this)

Additional Information
- There will be a 3-day waiting period, and your Effective Date will be THREE DAYS AFTER the Date License is Issued
- The marriage license is valid for ONLY 60 DAYS AFTER the Effective Date. Your marriage ceremony MUST happen before the Expiration Date
- To receive a copy or copies of your marriage license, you can either send a check or money order with your Officiant, and the Officiant will mail it with your license. The County will then send the amount you requested back to you via the address you provided. Or you may wait approximately 10 business days, and pick up a copy from the County Clerk in the County it was obtained it from.
